The power source or prime mover related to most hydraulic power units is the motor, which is usually selected according to its speed, torque level and power capacity. The size and performance of the motor and the hydraulic power unit complement each other, which can minimize energy waste and improve long-term cost efficiency.
The selection criteria for motors vary according to the type of power supply used. For example, the initial torque of the motor is far greater than its working torque, but the torque-speed curve of diesel and gasoline engines is more uniform, and can provide relatively stable torque at high and low speeds. Therefore, the internal combustion engine can start the load pump, but if it does not match the hydraulic power unit, it cannot provide enough power to reach the working speed.
